The Battle of the U.S.S. Monitor and the C.S.S. Merrimac

The U.S.S. Monitor, the first ironclad to battle another ironclad.
The C.S.S. Merrimac (or Merrimack, also known as the Virginia) which fought the Monitor.

The Virginia was exploded by the Confederates to keep it from falling into Union hands.

The Monitor sinks in a storm off Cape Hatteras, North Carolina on December 31, 1862.
